JU Kamenjak: development of the solution to improve the management of parking zones

Another interesting and successful project is behind us. For the needs of the Public Institution Kamenjak, equipment was delivered and installed to improve the management of parking zones at the installation sites located in the significant landscape of Donji Kamenjak and the Medulin archipelago. The aforementioned delivery is related to the HUMANITA project, which is funded by European Union funds (Transnational Cooperation Program INTERREG Central Europe 2021-2027, European Regional Development Fund) and which develops management tools based on evidence and participation that enable regions to monitor better and assess the impact of tourism on protected areas. The project aims to test and create innovative solutions for assessing the impact of tourist activities on the environment in protected areas.

For the purposes of the project, at the end of September, equipment for counting the passage of vehicles was delivered to an individual parking lot adapted to power from photovoltaic panels, which includes ten video cameras for counting the passage of vehicles based on the application of artificial intelligence (AI), installation and commissioning of thirteen solar power panels to power cameras and ten screens for displaying the occupancy status of individual parking lots with their solar power. Furthermore, a software solution was developed and implemented - a central system application for collecting data on the number of vehicles in local parking lots and managing the local and central screens to display the occupancy status of individual parking lots. The application is made in WEB technology and enables the viewing of current statuses and the management of parking lot status content on each display.

The key message of the implementation of this project is the importance of better management of visitors today so that tomorrow's visitors can also experience all the qualities of the area and their conservation values. Tourism in protected areas is a sensitive topic, and it is extremely important to find the right solution and balance between preserving and opening them to visitors.
